viaduct construction continues

a little bit more work done today on the scenery of the viaduct and also scenery on the approach to the viaduct to give the impression of height so has the trains travel along from the station they slowly rise up to a height and go over the viaduct

viaduct design

me and bob worked on the layout for a couple of hours this afternoon and even thou at first bob wasn't sure how the design would work out in the end i think he was very pleased with what he had achieved and we can see how it will take shape a little better now

mock village layout ideas

made quite alot of buildings now for the village including cottages ,semi detached properties a church and also a pub ( we got to have one of them ) and a fish and chip shop and i have just been experimenting by setting everything out to get a feel of what it could look like the pictures show it from different parts of that will be the village you can also see their is a bridge with the village spread on both sides which i feel will look great on the first pictures just to the left their is going to be space for about 3 industrial units has the road then takes you along in to the village with the church in the middle surrounded by a grassy area and the village continuing through the bridge area as seen in pic 3

semi detached house build

a nice little model of a semi detached house with nice features to include front porches and 1 of the residences has a nice little conservatory at the rear and both have a garage

church completed

very pleased with the outcome of the church complete with a lich gate entrance lots of nice detail on this models very impressed with the detail around the window areas which you can see from the window of the chancel

the church build continues with the isles now fitted and the nave

the creation of the village church - the tower and nave

a nice little model to make so far it was a little tricky making the buttresses that stand at the end of the tower but im very pleased with the end result and so far i have the tower made and the nave connected but still lots of work to do , the detail on this model seems very good , lots of nice detail around the windows

village cottages

just started to make these rather nice cottages with out building for the village .made a couple of them up at the moment but their will be 4 in total with a few different  style of house to add a little contrast

more shops completed for layout

some more shops completed for the layout with quite a good model of marks and Spencer which i'm quite pleased about

its taken a few days to get to this point but with a lot of time taken and help from jenny we have the final result which i am impressed with and i think it will make a big difference when placed on the layout

the 1st in a row of shops is made "national Westminster bank " a very nice little model to make ,even included curtains in the upper windows

mainline station

for the station i invested in a metcalfe kit and was very pleased with it ,everything from the kit was great all well fitting and easy to follow instructions all in all this kit must have taken about 5 - 6 hours to complete .this was something i really enjoyed and very pleased with the outcome the next venture will probably be a kit to make a row of shops

main lines

both main lines are now operational so things are more intresting with the capability of running 2 trains at once

at the moment their is a goods train pulling wagons and a gner passenger train passing each other

outer mainline and fiddle yards

 track pieces have arrived so been working really hard on the layout today we now have a completed outer main line complete with fiddle yards the next stage is to work on the inner mainline with its fiddle yards ....stay tuned

trains and rolling stock

while me and bob are waiting for our track pieces to arrive we have started to sort out some rolling stock to see what we have to run once the track is complete

track layout begins

the track laying begins the area of track that you can see on the right hand side of the picture is going to form the station with several platforms for the main line and 2 for branch line

trail run

a little mock up track layout to see how things will look and hey it was a success the train actually went around the track lol  .... a bit of running in needed but it soon got hurtling around the track

painting finished and fascia boards fitted

the painting of the baseboard is now complete after 4 coats of magnolia emulsion to give a good seal and the fascia boards have been painted and fitted to add that extra bit of nice detail and finish
so the next stage is the laying of the track which by the end of it i may have completely gone off the rails

the painting of the baseboard begins with the first coat of paint and the viaduct starts to take shape

me and bob spent a couple of hours this afternoon cutting an fixing the baseboard to the frame with glue and 1 inch tacs. it went quite well and is now ready for a few coats of emulsion to coat and protect it after this we can then start on the fun part of starting to lay the track and  see what we can achieve and what we have to work with

the part of the baseboard that is missing is going to be where the viaduct will be positioned.both photos show the span of the layout

framework finished

so after many hours sawing and drilling wood and fitting framework together with all the 4 frames bolted together  we are now finally at the stage of the framework been finished and are now ready to start fitting the baseboard which will be sundela

bob is the main person behind the design and im constructing it so onto the main framework ,so with measurements given to me by bob thus the framework making begins and is put into place piece by piece a total of 4 frame pieces needed to complete the layout

shelving and framework

so the work began bob helped with the measurements for me to then start building the shelving and support units  and painting them .this took a little while to do but was worth it

the original idea

a couple of months ago i came upon the idea of building a n guage model layout in the bedroom .i thought it would be a great idea to go into this as a joint venture with bob my father in law who is well into modelling especially in n guage
so our first job was to measure what space we had and set up about drawing plans and thus our designing of the layout began
